God reveals that we will only be held to account in terms of the Qur’an, but the fanatics say it is no good without the hadiths
Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Conversation on A9TV dated May 21th, 2014
Adnan Oktar: Verse 31 of Surat an-Nur speaks of women’s freedom. They have only just realized this. Look, they say not a word. They were terrified when they saw that. Some of them are saying, ‘If that is what this verse means, then I am irreligious.’ There is someone who claims to be a religious scholar who says that quite explicitly. ‘If that is what this verse means, then I am irreligious,’ he says.
- In another verse God says, “They invented monasticism.. but even so they did not observe it as it should have been observed’’
Adnan Oktar: Of course, God says, ‘We did not prescribe it [monasticism] for them’ They invented it for themselves. They do not abide by the traditional, orthodox faith. I am only referring to some of them of course.
Bülent Sezgin: In one verse God says, ‘We have made the Qur’an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there?’
Adnan Oktar: "He does not desire difficulty for you" says Almighty God. "God desires ease for you; He does not desire difficulty for you.” The traditionalist faith is built upon difficulty. I ask them what it would be like if everyone lived by the Qur’an. I even asked one of them what he would do on a desert island if only the Qur’an were available. He had a long think… so the Qur’an is sufficient, he said. He was asking whether one can be a Muslim with the Qur’an alone. He said there would be some things missing in Islam in that case. There would be things missing in prayer and other areas, he said. He never answered my question. My brothers can ask other fanatics that question. Is it possible to live as a Muslim on a desert island with only the Qur’an? They say it is not possible.
Aylin Kocaman: In another verse God says, ‘Or do they have partners who have laid down a religion for them for which God has not given any authority?. They are building a sharia law that is not in the faith.
Adnan Oktar: They produce commandments that God never spoke and are inventing a new religion. Fethullah Gülen says, ‘A perversion called the Islam of the Qur’an has appeared. ’In other words, people who say the Qur’an is sufficient are perverse. Everyone said the Qur’an was sufficient in the time of the Companions. So in Gülen's opinion, what do these words of the Companions mean? There were no hadiths in the time of the Companions. There was no abiding by the hadiths. Everyone abided by the Qur’an. The Companions took the Qur’an with them when they went to preach, and that is all. They preached with the Qur’an. God says we will be held to account solely with the Qur’an in the hereafter. We will only be questioned with the Qur’an. But according to Fethullah Hodja that is perversion. Look, he says, ‘A perversion called the Islam of the Qur’an has appeared.’ He speaks of the ‘scholars of the customary faith,’ not of the Qur’an. He says the Qur’an needs the hadiths more than the hadiths need the Qur’an. He says the Qur’an needs the hadiths. He says the Qur’an is unimportant without the hadiths. He says the Qur’an will have no or little effect without them. He says the Qur’an has no function without the hadiths. But he says the hadiths have no need of the Qur’an. He says there is a greater need for hadiths than for the Qur’an. He says the Qur’an is not indispensible. Saying that the Qur’an needs the hadiths is equivalent to saying that the Qur’an is invalid without them.
Gökalp Barlan: In one verse God says, " Am I to desire someone other than God as a judge when it is He Who has sent down the Book to you clarifying everything? "
Adnan Oktar: Look, "Am I to desire someone other than God as a judge". In this case an arbiter other than God is being sought. "when it is He Who has sent down the Book to you clarifying everything?" He says. These people are saying the Qur’an is not clear, that we cannot understand it. So what is the Qur’an then? Let them go and ask the fanatics whether they could live as a Muslim on an island with only the Qur’an? They will say you cannot. The Companions would chase these people away if they could hear them. It is unbelievable.
Bülent Sezgin: God says in another verse, " This Qur’an guides to the most upright Way."
Adnan Oktar: The Qur’an leads to the true path. In the traditionalist orthodox conception of Islam you have to recite the Qur’an with the right pronunciation. The Abyssinians read it and the Iranians read it. However a person reads it, that is the right way. Minor quibbles prevent people from praying. A language that makes things difficult is wrong. The whole nation knows Surah Fatiha, but 99% or 99.9% cannot recite it properly. This a prayer heeded in the Sight of God. It is accepted by God because it is made sincerely. For example, the word ‘come’ is pronounced differently with a Black Sea accent or an Istanbul. But both are valid. Almighty God knows that person’s intention. It is therefore very wrong to turn people away from praying by insisting on reciting things with no mistakes.
(Viewer’s question) How should we apply the command to obey God and His Messenger in verse 59 of Surat an-Nisa’?
What does obeying God and His Messenger mean? Means obeying to the Qur'an. What does abiding by the Qur’an mean? Could the messenger tell you not to pray? No. He reveals to you the commands of the Qur’an. Almighty God says that he also has a duty to abide by the Qur’an. The prophet (pbuh) has to obey the Qur’an. Almighty God says, " If he had made up any sayings and ascribed them to Us, We would have seized him by force, and then We would have cut off his life-blood and not one of you could have protected him." What else would you like Almighty God to say? He is quite explicit, but they fail to understand. Look, God speaks to them in a language they can understand. He says He will tear out Prophet's jugulars. He says He will tear out the Prophet’s (pbuh) jugular if he tries to make any addition to the Qur’an or take anything from it or put something from himself in it. God says that nobody will be able to save him, but people still fail to understand. Obedience to the Prophet (pbuh) as a commander-in-chief and as a religious leader is obligatory. Obedience to all the prophets is obligatory, not just to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This is a command to obey those in authority. Everything the Prophet (pbuh) says is to be obeyed, but he cannot make any new commandments. He cannot produce a commandment that is not in the Qur’an. He has no authority to change the Qur’an. Our Prophet (pbuh) has to obey what was revealed.
Aslı Sume: God says of the Prophet (pbuh) in another verse, " nor does he [Muhammad] speak from whim. It is nothing but Revelation revealed,"
Adnan Oktar: Masha’Allah. What does that mean? The Qur’an. Revelation means the Qur’an.
Gökalp Barlan: Verse 51 of Surat al-An’am says, " I follow nothing except what is revealed to me. I fear, were I to disobey my Lord, the punishment of a Dreadful Day.’"
Adnan Oktar: What is revealed appears in the Qur’an. You cannot have secret revelation. You cannot have secret commandments. If it is God’s command, God will put it in the Qur’an. They say that God did not put something in the Qur’an. So where is it? It was written on a leaf, but a goat ate it, they say. Ask where the leaf is, and they say a goat ate it. Even assuming that the goat ate it, did the Companions not memorize the Qur’an? He would put it in the Qur’an. Such a thing is impossible. If you did such a thing then the Companions would all come down on you.
Aylin Kocaman: In one verse God says; "It is not right for any human being that God should give him the Book and Judgment and Prophethood, and then that he should say to people, ‘Be worshippers of me rather than God.’ Rather he will say, ‘Be people of the Lord because of your knowledge of the Book and because you study.’ "
Adnan Oktar: Look, on the basis of the Qur’an. "Be people of the Lord because of your knowledge of the Book and because you study.’" He says. The prophet does not refer to himself. He does not say he will come up with new revelations and new commandments. He says he obeys the commandments of God and that we must all obey this book.
It is unbelievable how they fail to understand this. It is a miracle. Someone says, ‘The Prophet changed the commandments in the Qur’an.’ ‘Is he not a prophet? So he can do it,’ they say. I ask where they get that idea from. 'Abu Hanifa said so,’ they say. We look at the hadiths of Imam Shafi, and he says ‘What Abu Hanifa says is a lie.’ Imam Maliq says, 'What they both say is wrong. There is only one true account, and that is what I say.’ And Imam Hanbal says, ‘All three are mistaken, only I speak the truth.’
Do you not see? The four schools all have different commandments. The four all contradict one another. They all say the others are lying. The rules about prayer differ in the four schools. Reading Surah Fatiha is obligatory in some, but not in others. That is a very different thing. The rules about the last two complete sets differ, the rules about lawful foods differ. What is lawful in one is unlawful in another. Imam Hanbal says that Imam Hanifa’s hadiths are false. Imam Hanifa says someone else’s hadiths are false. Which one should we believe? They do not heed the Qur’an, all four depart from the faith. These are four separate beliefs.
Oktar Babuna: In one verse God says, "those who split up their religion, and form into sects, each faction exulting in what they have."
Adnan Oktar: They all say they had attained salvation.
