Explanations of various verses from Surah Yusuf by Mr. Adnan Oktar

New Statements by Mr. Adnan Oktar (18 April 2014)

Surah Yusuf,  Verse: 23
The woman, whose house it was, solicited him. She barred the doors and said, ´Come over here!´ He said, ´God is my refuge! He is my Lord and has been good to me with where I live. Those who do wrong will surely not succeed.
The woman whose house he resided in solicited the Prophet Joseph and barred the doors. Look, the doors to the living room are not just one, but there are several rooms; that is such a big and splendid house. They are living alone with the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) in that house. Actually the bigots would have freaked out in the sight of that. That woman wanders around in revealing, low neck clothes around the Prophet Joseph(pbuh).
“… and said; “Come over here!” He (Joseph) said; “God is my refuge!”Look, he doesn’t give in to solicitation or else he looks at that woman and sees her beauty and appreciates it as well. He likes her, the Qur’an tells us that he likes her. Actually he desires her but he doesn’t approach her. “He (Joseph) said ;”God is my refuge! He is my Lord and has been good to me with where I live. Those who do wrong will surely not succeed.” Those who engage in debauchery, commit adultery, those who sin would not succeed.
Surah Yusuf, Verse: 24
She wanted him and he would have wanted her, had he not seen the Clear Proof of his Lord. That happened so We might avert from him all evil and lust. He was indeed one of Our sincere worshippers.
“She wanted him and he would have wanted her, had he not seen the Clear Proof of his Lord.” He wants her but doesn’t sleep with her. “That happened so We might avert from him all evil and lust.” Look, God doesn’t want adultery. Not one’s looking at the other gender, not one’s liking the other, but He doesn’t want adultery. What is adultery? It is sexual relations that would disrupt the generations to come. that is a beauty when done with the lawful one; God doesn’t want the other because it is unlawful. “He was indeed one of Our sincere worshippers.” What is his characteristic? His sincerity. Look, God mentions only one characteristic here and He says; “He was indeed one of Our sincere worshippers.” God doesn’t tell us that he was performing his prayers, that he was giving his alms, that he went for Hajj. God only mentions his being a sincere worshipper. What is the main characteristic of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)? His sincerity. God doesn’t tell us about the bed that he lay in, about how he didn’t eat much, about how he cried and how he refrained from the material aspects of this world. God only mentions his sincerity. This also is Hazrat Mahdi’s (pbuh) main characteristic, insha’Allah.
Surah Yusuf, Verse: 25
They raced to the door. She tore his shirt at the back. They met her husband by the door. She said, ´How should a man whose intention was to harm your family be punished for what he did except with prison or painful punishment?´
“They raced to the door.” My dear one, the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) is such a nice person. “She tore his shirt at the back.” When she pulls his shirt to stop him, his shirt is torn. But we understand that the shirt he has on is not a shirt that is tight on his back; because she can hold on to it, that means it is a loose and comfortable shirt. “They met her husband by the door.” God does that specifically; God is the One Who tears his shirt, God is the One Who makes them meet her husband. Normally they might not have met him there. “She said; “How should a man whose intention was to harm your family be punished for what he did except for prison or painful punishment.” So she wants him to be beaten. “…prison or painful punishment.”
Surah Yusuf, Verses 26-27-28
He said, ´It was she who tried to seduce me.´ A witness from her people then declared, ´If his shirt is torn in front, she speaks the truth and he has clearly told a shameless lie. If his shirt is torn at the back, then she has lied and he has clearly told the simple truth.´  He saw the shirt torn at the back and said, ´The source of this is women´s deviousness. Without a doubt your guile is very great.
When her husband saw that the shirt was torn at the back, he said, “The source of this is women’s deviousness. Without a doubt your guile is very great.” So some women are really very devious, very dangerous; they lay very elaborate tricks. The Qur’an drew attention to this. But of course if her husband was not given such a suggestion, he wouldn’t have gained such a point of view. We can see how open people are to suggestions. For instance, the man might have seen that the shirt was torn at his back but wouldn’t even be bothered about that; he might fail to make sense of it or see that it is evidence.  For instance, it wouldn’t be that effective if the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) said the same but when someone else says this, it would be very effective because he would regard that person as impartial. Since the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) might be considered as a part of that act, his own statements wouldn’t be that much  effective. For instance, in the courts, you know that the accounts of impartial witnesses would be taken as greater testimony rather than the statement of the people directly involved.  That is why the statement of that witness did have a stronger impact on the husband; psychologically the human soul has a greater tendency to that. But we also see that this person has a good conscience. He could have still ruled against the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) if he wished so.
Surah Yusuf, Verse 29
“Joseph, ignore all this, and you, my wife, should ask forgiveness for your evil act. There is no doubt that you are in the wrong.”
“Joseph, ignore all this…” Look, this is his reaction; “…ignore all this…” Do not talk to her, do not be bothered by her, do not have any connections with her. “… and you, my wife, should ask forgiveness for your evil act.” Look, this shows that person is very devout and very rational as he approaches  things very reasonably and conscientiously. He doesn't do anything wild. For instance, he doesn’t go and beat or kill the woman. We can see the nice result of the devoutness of that person.  Look at what he says; “Joseph, ignore all this…” He tells him not to see her. “…and you my wife should ask for forgiveness for your evil act. There is no doubt that you are in the wrong.” So he tells his wife that she sinned and that she has to repent. He tells her that she is in the wrong towards God and that she should repent for that.  He tells her that he is not the one to punish her, but God is;  but he also doesn’t want her to be punished for what she did. Look, he doesn’t want her to be burnt in the Hereafter. He wants her salvation in the Hereafter as well and approaches her with compassion. “Repent and be saved,” he says.
