IQBAL’s Self Being
This is an important incident of life of Allama Iqbal which I heard last night during the translation of Suah Hashr for taraweeh. This incident was once quoted by Syed Nzair Niazi,a close companion of Iqbal, in Quran Conference in Lahore, Pakistan.

One day he met Allama Iqbal  and shared that many people have different assumptions regarding your source of inspiration for the concept of Khudi( self ).Some people say that your “philosophy of self” is based on Bergson or Nietzsche while some bring another story. “Why don’t you tell yourself?”. Allama Iqbal replied him, “ Alright ,come tomorrow at my home.I will dictate you about this matter”. Syed Nazir Niazi’s joy knew no bounds on that offer.“ I thought myself so fortunate that the greatest poet of the East and Orator of Nation will tell me about his philosophy of self.” The next day I reached there in time equipped with pen and notebook to jot down each and every bit of information at the spot. There Allama Iqbal said, “Take out the Quran out of shelf ”.At this instruction, my all hopes became dewy.I thought he would ask me to take out any book of philosophy or history but instead he asked for the Holy Quran.

Then Iqbal said, open Surah Hashr and read its 19^th verse :

“And be ye not like those who forget Allah (i.e. became His disobedient) and He caused them forget their own souls. such are the rebellious transgressors!”                                 (Surah 59. Al-Hashr, Ayah 19)

Here the debate starts. What is this OWNSELF with whom a person is forgetful about? Can a person neglect his physical or bodily needs? Lo and behold, No, every person takes great care of his physique. He washes himself daily and eats a good diet for this health in order to beautify his physical appearance. If he gets pinched by a tiny thorn, he rushes towards doctor for treatment. If he has to buy something, he earns money and spends according to his affordable range. So the question arises again, “what is the thing he is ignoring or neglecting which the Quran has pointed out?” Is one is over sighting his anatomical or animalism existence or needs? No, there exist some another entity or Being of a human with whom he is ignorant so far and that being is called Man’s spiritual existence (which do the righteous deeds).

Man’s spiritual being is embedded in the physical being that is why it does not gets chance to grow and develop like the physical being. Here comes the priority of man i.e. his all efforts have tendency to fulfill his needs from earth and thus his spiritual being remain unfulfilled and weak.

ADNAN OKTAR: "Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not appear until innocent people are slaughtered."  For instance now in Syria, inoffensive and immaculate young girls, children, inoffensive people are being martyred every single day.  The bodies of those martyred young people are being collected in trucks, right? "Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not appear until innocent people are slaughtered and He will appear when those on Earth and in the skies can no longer bear the killing.." So the terror and anarchy will come to such a state that people will say; "enough is enough!" When people come to a state that they cannot stand any longer, Mahdi will appear.

ADNAN OKTAR: Look how nicely he tells; Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not shed blood. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) has nothing to do with blood and pus. Who sheds blood? The dajjal (anti-messiah). Shedding blood is the specialty of the dajjal . Look, in the hadiths, the dajjal (anti-messiah) is always cited together with blood. Always blood, always blood, always blood; there is blood in the dajjal. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is anti-blood; he stops blood. The dajjal spills blood; this is his characteristic. He always wants blood. When you say blood and pus; it is the dajjal. If you say cleanness, beauty, goodness, blessings, prosperity, abundance, justice, freedom and peace, it is the system of the Mahdi. Here our Master has expressed this very nicely, masha'Allah, well said!

ADNAN OKTAR: When Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) comes there will be no blood, pus and ignominy. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) cleans the blood. He will clean the blood spilled by the dajjal (anti-messiah). Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not spill blood. Look our Master Sheikh Ahmad Yasin also explains it perfectly. Who is saying this? Our Prophet (saas) is saying this. Do you have those hadiths with you?

OKTAR BABUNA: Yes Master insha'Allah.

ADNAN OKTAR: Insha'Allah. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) being anti-blood, the being cleaner of blood and on the other hand the dajjal (anti-messiah) being sanguinary is a well-known saying. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) brings joy, but the dajjal brings sorrow and crying. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) brings cleanliness and the dajjal brings filth. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) brings prosperity and abundance and the system of the dajjal brings drought and crisis. They are opposite in every sense. Wherever there is filth it comes with the dajjal and wherever there is beauty it comes with the system of the Mahdi. Insha'Allah.

OKTAR BABUNA: Our Prophet (saas) says: "In the same way that bees gather round the queen, so people will gather round the Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). He will fill the world, once filled with oppression, with justice instead. Such will be his justice that the sleeping man will not be awakened and no blood will be shed."

ADNAN OKTAR: Our Prophet (saas) say this look. Not any person is saying this. He says "no blood will be shed." If you say "no he will shed blood" this means a statement like "I am superior to the Prophet (saas)." Allah is beyond that. It means you claim to "know better than Allah and better than the Prophet (saas)." [May Allah forbid]. That is because the Prophet (saas) says this through revelation. Right? But what does our Prophet (saas) say for the dajjal (anti-messiah)? He says "he is a sanguinary, he sheds blood."

ADNAN OKTAR:He [Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)] will give joy insha'Allah. And our Prophet (saas) says that he will rule from his house. He does not need palaces or this and that; he is in his house. He is an expert of the heart and love. He will teach the world love, he is a teacher of love. He is a teacher of compassion and mercy. He will stop the fights and the wars. He will ensure safety to be obtained. He will say "What is the use for this tension and fight?" He will say "What is the use for this blood. Let us unite and become brothers." Everybody will unite. He will say "Let us help the poor and the needy", the rich will distribute all of their property to the poor. The state will distribute all the means it has. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will say "What is the use of producing weapons?" They will say "You are telling the truth." He will say "Close down the weapon factories." They will ask; "What are we going to do with factories?" He will say; "Manufacture refrigerators, manufacture washing machines, manufacture cars." He will say "Let people drive cars." He will say "Instead of investing steel in tanks and cannon balls, invest the steel in cars." The people will have cheap cars, cheap food, cheap clothing. They will even say; -goods will be so many that the individual will be ashamed about the plenitude of goods and they take it back- "We do not take back what we granted, so do whatever you do with it. Do whatever you want, give it away. We are not taking it back." There will be such great prosperity and abundance. So Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) has no problem with the world. When we say sovereignty, people assume splendor and such.. there is no such thing. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) sits at home, he is a home person, a man of love. 40 years of his life will pass with preaching the religion. So at his later ages this  dominion is attained insha'Allah. Our friends call it mind exercise. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will have them do a lot of exercise in the open air. They will breath the air right to their lungs. Blood will go to their heads insha'Allah. Then they will see what exercise is. Of course with love, compassion and affection. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is like the Messenger of Allah (saas). He is a person of affection; one who sees him will be delighted. Our Prophet (saas) says "Everyone will embrace him." He says "Everyone who sees him will embrace him and they will talk about nothing but Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)." Allah, His Messenger (saas), religion, faith and Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). He says "Everyone will talk about Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)." Insha'Allah. I am listening to you Oktar.

OKTAR BABUNA: Astagfirullah Master. Shall I read one more hadith of our Prophet (saas) about not spilling blood, insha'Allah.

ADNAN OKTAR: Read, yes.

OKTAR BABUNA: "People who swear allegiance to him, Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh), will do so in between the Corner and the Maqam [around the Kaba]; they do not wake the sleeping and never shed blood."

ADNAN OKTAR: Look it does not say he does not spill blood; "he never spills blood." Because Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not be side by side with blood. Can blood be side by side with the dajjal (anti-messiah)? The dajjal already swims in blood. The dajjal swims in the sea of blood, he lives in the sea of blood. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is anti-blood, he comes to clean the blood, insha'Allah.

OKTAR BABUNA: Master shall I also read about the dajjal spilling blood?

ADNAN OKTAR: Yes.

OKTAR BABUNA: Our Prophet (saas) says: "There will be much strife, disorder and insurrection (in those times) and people will kill one another. People kill themselves, and mischief prevails all over the world. In such a troubled time, that cursed one, the dajjal(anti-messiah) appears" Imam Sharani, "The time, the Day of Judgment gets closer, good deeds decrease, meanness and rage take root among people and a lot of mischief. The Companions asked 'What is mischief?' The Messenger of Allah (saas) said 'killing, killing'."

ADNAN OKTAR: This is what the dajjal will do. Blood, blood, blood.. there is nothing but blood. The dajjal will drag people into corruption, mischief, trouble, uneasiness, romanticism, crying, wailing, sorrow and scaring. People's faces will be as long as a fiddle; this is what the dajjal does. He will make people live as if they are fascinated in the dream world. He will make people aggressive and angry. People will be as tense as bows. In addition the Messenger of Allah (saas) says "he will unveil the chains of light." Bediuzzaman explains this. He says  "He unties chains of light like reverence and mercy. When he unties the chain, people are already tense like bomb ready to explode. He attacks with an incredible aggressiveness. When he attacks blood is shed. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) says "stop now" with his strong arms. He says; "what is going on?" So Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is like the wall of Dhulkarneyn (pbuh). When they hit him they get all destroyed, they cannot pass through. Just like they say "Canakkale is impassable"; the wall built by Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is also impassable insha'Allah.

ADNAN OKTAR:Bediuzzaman says that followers and friends of the Prophet Jesus, his capacity of knowledge and material power is very small compared to the giant statue and giant capacity of the anti-Christ. Their number is small, but he says that the antichrist is "killed with strike of his sword." Even though his power is so limited to let him only jump up to his knees, he strikes with his sword and kills the anti-Christ. What is indicated here, is the sword of knowledge. Bediuzzaman says that also about the companions of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh), they are very small in number. When compared to followers of the anti-Christ, they may be one against a million. But that small army will tear down the system of anti-Christ all over the world.

The small army of the Prophet Jesus (pbuh), which consists of 1400 persons, will pull down the giant system of anti-Christ in politics all over the world. Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh), pulls down the system of anti-Christ in belief, and the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) pulls down the system of anti-Christ in politics. Insha'Allah. In other words, Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is involved in studies related with faith, while the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) is involved in efforts in regard with world politics. He will have an impact on world leaders, some celebrities in the world as well as the military, through his followers. He will lead a private mission in confidentiality. Bediuzzaman says this is pointed out.

CİHAT GÜNDOĞDU:This is definitely a response to claims of bloodshed and that this will entirely be an intellectual effort.

ADNAN OKTAR:Sure, Said Nursi says, "even a microbe, a cold could kill the body of anti-Christ." Bediuzzaman says, "His thought system is important and the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) will kill his thought system." We also understand from this. Or else there is no putting him down and cutting him into pieces, there is nothing like that. Because both the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) and Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)have the same nature; they do not shed blood. For instance you also see in the Gospels that the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) did never get his hands into blood. He would have done that for Allah, if required, as a religious obligation, but Allah did not charge him with such duty. So, the Prophet Jesus (pbuh) has not committed such an act. However, the Prophet Moses (pbuh) is not like that at all as well as our Prophet Muhammad (saas); they have also killed. For instance at the time of the Prophet Noah (pbuh), Allah perishes the entire community at once. That is massive killing because only the people inside the ship are kept alive by Allah, and the remaining are entirely killed.

But not even a drop of blood is shed by Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) or the Prophet Jesus (pbuh). People sleeping are not woken up; both are men of compassion. Moreover, our Prophet (saas) gives one detail and says, "not even a nose will bleed." In addition, he says "not a drop of blood is shed" so that others would not claim that "only some blood will be shed." Our Prophet (pbuh) made this clear to prevent allegations like "such odds and ends would come to happen." He said, "not a drop of blood will be shed" and moreover, "he does not wake up the sleeper." Over and above, "even the fish in the sea" and "birds in the sky" are pleased with him. Both are people of love, compassion and mercy and Allah did not assign them with such a duty insha'Allah.

CİHAT GÜNDOĞDU:The greatness of their victory and triumph is hidden in this intellectual struggle insha'Allah, is that right?

ADNAN OKTAR:Yes. There is something unknown in this world. They suppose the greatest weapon is the atom bomb or hydrogen bomb. The greatest weapon is love. No nation or people in the world is able to stand against love. The one who shows love always wins. Since there is no love in Darwinist, materialistic thinking and on the other hand there is cruelty, egoism and selfishness; they are in disadvantage and therefore Allah makes them fail. System of the Mahdi (pbuh) is always based on love, compassion and mercy.

ADNAN OKTAR: "I do have a question, I would appreciate if you could pass it to Master. Why do you use the term "Turkish-Islamic Union" instead of "Islamic Union"? Is it not accounted as racism?" Then you would be leaving them headless. They have always left Muslim world leaderless. I mean if a leader steps forward he needs to hold that leadership tight. If we were to say; "There will be the Unity of Islam." Then let us see who the leader will be? It might be Egypt, it might be Pakistan, it might be Iran, it might be Turkey. The man would say; "well then give it a name." But now, we'd just say; "It might be Pakistan, it might be Egypt, it might be Turkey or it might also be Indonesia." Such a Union of Islam would not happen. A leader should step forward. That leader has already stepped forward; it is a natural leader. The Messenger of Allah (saas) has foretold us about that natural leader through revelation. It is Turkey. Turks are the natural leader. He [Our prophet (saas)] says; "Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will appear in Istanbul," and that is the end of the discussion. "He will unfurl his flag first among Turks," says our Prophet. What does this mean? Our Prophet (saas) openly, explicitly refers to Turks. "Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will be wherever the holy relics are." Where are the holy relics? They are all here, they are right beside us. That is why we are referring to it as the "Turkish-Islamic Union". So the nation that will be serving to this end, will be the Turkish nation. That is the servant of the whole Islamic world. The Islamic World will gather around the Turkish nation, that is the whole point. Or else we are not saying; "Turks are superior. We are genetically superior, we are a superior race, have a look at our genetic structure you will see our superiority." The superiority here lies in service.  Yet in respect of piety, Turkish nation is actually a nation that lives Islam beautifully. The whole world accepts this fact. But do they not have any flaws? They do.  But the leader is the Turkish nation. Other than that we do not have any claim of superiority and we would never have such a claim.  Anyone claiming that would be in error. If anyone says that he would be making a mistake. That is because the Messenger of Allah (saas) says; "superiority in the Sight of Allah is only gained through piety. Persians do not have any superiority over the Arabs and Arabs do not have superiority over the Persians." That is very clear.  "Persians do not have superiority over the Arab, Arabs do not have superiority over the Persians. Superiority is only gained through piety," he says. The standard is defined here. That means there is no discussion of race here. Yet about the leadership, the name of the leader should be clearly pronounced. That is it, that is the point that we are trying to explain. 

Kurds, Turks, Laz, Circassian, our nation is mixed anyway. There are people from all nationalities. We, as Muslims are in unity under the name of Islam. And we call that "Turkish", we call those people living in the Republic of Turkey "Turks". For those who say that they are "Turks" it means that they are Muslims. Muslims who love each other, all our citizens we are living in this country enjoying freedom altogether as brothers. Our Kurdish brothers were under severe pressure. That is why there might have been hatred nurtured in some of them. Some of them are under the influence of communist propaganda. And some of them have become the weasels of the PKK. And through the use of ideas, it is possible to bring them to heel as well. It is possible to bring them to the right path through the use of ideas, science, culture, art, love and compassion. It wouldn't be possible any other way. Muslims have only one topic and that is the Union of Islam. Consequently there is no problem to be called the Kurdish Problem. The Baas regime has crushed our Kurdish brothers, the alleged Ergenekon terror organization crushed them, Saddam has crushed them in Iraq. Allah is saving them. They will all live in peace in the compassionate, loving climate of Turkey. All the Kurds, those living in Syria, those in Iraq, those in Iran, they are all our brothers, they are all very dear to us. They will live their lives in festiveness in the vastness of this geography, away from that violence, away from that oppression. They are not comfortable in Iran either, they are under oppression in Iran as well. But they will be at ease everywhere insha'Allah.

"Master, it appears as if the reason why the Turkish Islamic Union is being misunderstood by some circles is that they imagine it as union formed solely by the Turkish and Islamic countries.  Since that term was used by various circles before, they think that it is a marginal expression. Master, in order to prevent this misconception, do you think it would be okay if we use the term Islamic Union under the leadership of Turkey?" No, there is no need for that.  When you talk about the Turkish Islamic Union, you would have to make an explanation even if you refer to it as a Union under the leadership of Turkey or as Turkish Islamic Union or even if you refer to it as the Unity of Islam. It is enough to explain the true nature of such a union. That is because the Turkic states form the greatest part of this geography and the most crowded population. It is going to be a union under the leadership of Turkey but with the support of the Turkic states it would be a movement pioneered by a nation. It is a movement with their servitude. That has been mentioned in the hadiths as well. There is nothing surprising about this.

ADNAN OKTAR: Because there is no time in the Sight of Allah, because there is only one single moment, occasionally our Prophet (saas) was shown around in time, in a realm of dreams, by Allah. I mean it is a state in between sleep and wakefulness. He is taken out of time in a state in between sleep and wakefulness, he sees the Mahdi (pbuh), he comes to the time of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). That is because it is a fact that Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is carrying out his activities at this very moment, our Prophet (saas) is also talking with his Companions at this very moment and the Prophet Moses (pbuh) is passing through the sea at this moment together with his disciples, the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) is eating with his guests at this very moment, grilling that calf, the Prophet Adam (pbuh) has just now descended from the Paradise. As you know he [the Prophet Adam (pbuh)] feels so ashamed when he realizes the situation. That is because there is only one time, in the Sight of Allah there is only one single moment. If there is only one single moment, you may wander about within this time by the Will of Allah. If Allah wills so you may wander about in time and it is possible to see all of them.
