In the Qur'an Allah commands us to "only argue with the People of the Book in the kindest way"

In the Qur'an Allah commands us to "only argue with the People of the Book in the kindest way"

Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Conversation on A9TV dated January 7th, 2013

ADNAN OKTAR: Look at what Almighty Allah says about the People of the Book, about the Christians in Surat Al-Maidah, I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. Some people keep saying; "It is not acceptable to talk to Christians." And they call it a "dialogue". First of all you should leave aside such odd words like "dialogue", etc. I really become irritated by those words. What dialogue are you talking about? You talk to Christians, you communicate the religion, you have discourses. I mean when we go to the grocery, do we call it a "dialogue" when we talk to them? Is it a dialogue when we talk to our mothers, sisters? We just talk to them, we have discourses. You do talk with Christians as well. This was the case ever since the old days. We talked to them in the times of our Prophet (saas) as well. There is no need to give it a special name, calling it "a dialogue" or something.
Masons performing prayers have caused a great stirring in the other French Masonic Lodges, in the English Masonic Lodges. They have had news published saying ;"They betrayed Freemasonry," "Muslim agents have infiltrated to masonic lodges," etc. Masons performing prayers has caused an enormous reaction in the masonic lodges, in the atheistic masonic lodges. These friends we have here are reacting on the other hand as well. They also make a commotion saying "Why did they perform prayers?" That is really, really a shame! This is not how Muslims should be. In Islam, we feel happy about all those who invoke the name of "Allah." We feel happy about those who perform prayers. Saying; "You said "Allah" yet you didn't say that sincerely." Well then they might claim that you are a hypocrite as well, right? What are you going to do then? He can come up and say; "You are not sincere. If you were a Muslim, you would be proud that I performed my prayers. That means you are a hypocrite," he might say. What would you then say? That is not acceptable. Neither of them are acceptable.  Surat Al-Maidah, verse 5.
YASEMİN AYŞE: Insha'Allah.  I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. "Today all good things have been made lawful for you. And the food of those given the Book is also lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. So are free women from among the muminun and free women of those given the Book before you, once you have given them their dowries in marriage, not in fornication or taking them as lovers. But as for anyone who rejects iman, his actions will come to nothing and in the Next World he will be among the losers."
ADNAN OKTAR: Look, Allah says "you can marry Christian women." Now what will you say about that dialogue in that concept? Are you not going to utter any words when you get married, are you not going to speak at all? Are you just going to stare at the woman constantly?  You will speak to them when you get married, so there is no need to call that a dialogue. You simply converse, you speak to them. She becomes your spouse, a woman from the People of the Book; a Christian or a Jew, right?  She becomes your loved one, your friend. She becomes your confidante, your friend in life. Allah says "you can marry" them. You eat their food. You go to their tables, will you not talk to them? Are you just go and eat your meal and leave without uttering a word? Almighty Allah says;" you can eat their food." That means if you see a Muslim go visit a Christian and have their meal you would say; "look, they are causing unrest, they are playing games, they are attempting to harm Muslims. The man visited a Christian and is eating their meal!" you would say. That is the command of Allah, Allah says that.  That means you would go and make news on papers saying "they are causing unrest" if you see a Muslim marrying a Christian, you will then make scenes and blame Muslims just because they acted according to the command of Allah. What does Almighty Allah say in this verse? Allah says; "marry" them. You are feeling disturbed by a man who goes to a mosque and performs prayers. That means if that woman, that Christian woman, one day envies Islam and performs prayers, you would then say; "You are playing us, you are deceiving us, you have laid a trap for us."  How is that acceptable? How atrocious this is! Be proud, encourage them. Encourage them to perform prayers again.  Yes, then..
Gülgün you read then. This second verse, here it is;
GÜLGÜN GÖKTAN: Okay. I seek refuge with my Lord from the satan; "Among the people of Musa there is a group who guide by the truth and act justly in accordance with it." (Surat Al-Araf, 159)
"They are not all the same. There is a community among the People of the Book who are upright. They recite Allah's Signs throughout the night, and they prostrate. They have faith in Allah and the Last Day, and enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and compete in doing good. They are among the righteous.  You will not be denied the reward for any good thing you do. Allah knows those who have taqwa." Surah Al-i İmran, 113-115
ADNAN OKTAR: Look, here Allah refers to those who perform prayers among the People of the Book, among Christians. Allah praises them. What does this friend of ours say? He condemns them and detests them. Allah praises and that friend of ours in Yeni Akit (daily) detests them. Here, Allah refers to Christians, People of the Book, performing prayers.   "There is a community among the People of the Book who are upright. They recite Allah's Signs throughout the night, and they prostrate," says Allah.  Allah praises that and that friend makes it a news report as if it is something bad, as if it is to the detriment of Islam. These contradict the Qur'an; these are words that contradict Islam.
Yes.. Surah Al-i Imran, 199; Surat Al-Qasas, 52-53
BEYZA BAYRAKTAR: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan; "Among the people of the Book there are some who have faith in Allah and in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down to them, and who are humble before Allah. They do not sell Allah's Signs for a paltry price. Such people will have their reward with their Lord. And Allah is swift at reckoning." Surah Al-i Imran; 199
ADNAN OKTAR: Look, this is about a person from the People of the Book, who has faith in the Qur'an. They have faith in their own Book, but they also have faith in the Qur'an. Allah regards that as acceptable. Allah regards that as nice and praises them. That is a response to those who challenge them saying; "why did you become a Muslim?" They have a logic that says a Christian cannot become a Muslim, cannot live by Islam and that is wrong. That is wrong according to the Qur'an.  Yes..
BEYZA BAYRAKTAR: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan; " Those We gave the Book before this have faith in it. When it is recited to them they say, 'We have faith in it; it is the truth from our Lord. We were already Muslims before it came'." Surat al-Qasas, 52-53
ADNAN OKTAR: See, Christians, the People of the Book, Jews, those who embrace Islam later on say; "We have believed in the Book sent before This and we were already Muslims before, and we are Muslims now as well." Yes..
Surat al-Baqarah, 62; Surat al-Maida, 69.. Ebru you read
EBRU ALTAN: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. "Those with faith, those who are Jews, and the Christians and Sabaeans, all who have faith in Allah and the Last Day and act rightly, will have their reward with their Lord. They will feel no fear and will know no sorrow."
ADNAN OKTAR: That means when we see people who have faith from among the Sabaeans, Chriastians or Muslims, we cannot tell them; "why do you have faith?" On the contrary we would be pleased about that. Why? Because that is the command of the Qur'an. That is how a wise Muslim would act. How could one ask; "Why have you become a Muslim, why have performed prayers? Why have you fasted?" For instance there are those who fast from among Christians and these people ask "why are you fasting?" They go to the Mosques and they ask ;"why did you come to the Mosque?" They read the Qur'an, and these people ask them ;"Why are you reading the Qur'an?" Pull yourself together, do you even hear what you are saying? That is a manner of speech that contradicts the Qur'an.  Yes..
EBRU ALTAN: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. "Those who have faith and those who are Jews and the Sabaeans and the Christians, all who have faith in Allah and the Last Day and act rightly will feel no fear and will know no sorrow." Surat Al-Maidah,  verse 69
ADNAN OKTAR: Yes, continue.. Was that all?
EBRU ALTAN: There is one more verse.
ADNAN OKTAR: Alright, read that as well. That verse, yes.
EBRU ALTAN: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. ".. You will find the people most affectionate to those who have faith are those who say, 'We are Christians'." Surat al-Maidah, 82
ADNAN OKTAR: Look ; ".. You will find the people most affectionate to those who have faith are those who say, 'We are Christians'," says Allah. And these people do not accept this. This is a verse, the verse of Allah. What does Almighty Allah say; ".. You will find the people most affectionate to those who have faith are those who say, 'We are Christians'." If you do not accept this verse, you would not be a Muslim anyway.  I seek refuge with Allah from the satan; "That is because some of them are priests and monks.." look these are people who are currently known as priests and monks.. ".. and because they are not arrogant." Allah praises them and say that they are not arrogant about the priests and monks. "They are not arrogant," says Allah. "When they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger.." when they listen to the Qur'an,".. you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they recognize of the truth." They cry out of happiness, says Allah. And these people are disturbed by that, they are not happy about Christians performing their prayers. That is not acceptable.  Yes..
Surat al-Ankabut, 46 and Surah Al-i Imran,64.. Give this to her ..
MERVE BÜYÜKBAYRAK: I seek refuge with Allah from the satan. "Only argue with the People of the Book in the kindest way - except in the case of those of them who do wrong - saying, 'We have faith in what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to you. Our God and your God are one and we submit to Him'." (Surat al-Ankabut, 46)
ADNAN OKTAR: Allah says; "saying", that is an address to all Muslims. Allah tells us to be in contact with the Christians and to talk to them and tells us to "argue with them in the kindest way" and not to be rude to them.  Allah says; "do not offend them." What does Almighty Allah say? ".. saying;.. " yes?
MERVE BÜYÜKBAYRAK: "We have faith in what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to you. Our God and your God are one and we submit to Him." (Surat al-Ankabut, 46)
ADNAN OKTAR: So we should say; "Our God and your God are One." We will call them to the Oneness of Allah. What Masons claim is that they believe in the same Allah anyway and they say; "we believe that Islam is the Truth. We believe that it is the right religion." We have presented them a copy of the Qur'an. And they have placed a copy of the Qur'an to all the Masonic lodges. I mean how were they supposed to act? Were they supposed to be in war with the Qur'an? It is really nice for them to advocate the Qur'an, to love the Qur'an. You should encourage them to perform their prayers again. You encourage them about the lawful things and tell them about the unlawful things. And that would be great. Why would that be great? That would be great, because it is the command of the Qur'an.  Yes..
MERVE BÜYÜKBAYRAK"Say, 'People of the Book! come to a proposition which is the same for us and you - that we should worship none but Allah and not associate any partners with Him and not take one another as lords besides Allah.' If they turn away, say, 'Bear witness that we are Muslims'." Surah Al-i Imran, 64
ADNAN OKTAR: Almighty Allah shows us how should the religion be communicated. He says; "talk to them". And these people come up saying things like "dialogue". That is not a dialogue, that is communicating of the truth; Amr bil Maroof and Nahy anil Munkar [enjoin the right and forbid the wrong]. While doing that, Allah tells us to do that in the kindest way. Compassionately and lovingly. He tells us not to be harsh. He tells us "you can marry" their women, Christian [and Jew] women. Allah says "You will find them affectionate," about the Christians.  He tells us that we will find them to be most affectionate to us. If your aim is the Qur'an, if you mean faith, that is how Allah tells us to do. If your heart is full of hatred, what can I say to you? You constantly are after hatred. You constantly have a skeptical attitude. You can be skeptical if you like, but you should be happy for a person performing his prayers, you should be happy about it. Why do you feel disturbed? If they have a copy of the Qur'an, if they are reading it, be happy about it. If you are talking to them, if you are communicating Islam, be happy about it. According to what? According to the Qur'an.
